Yes, this tutorial is longer than the original. This particular tutorial is more than thirty thousand words long.
Here is what I cover:
• What is an alternate universe?
• What makes a good alternate universe?
• Open and Closed Universes
• Kuroshitsuji and Alternate Universes
• Deciding on a New Reality
• Creating the Rules
• Adapting Characters
• Pairings in Alternate Universes
• Building Plots
Much like the original tutorial, this tutorial will occasionally be updated as the manga continues. Please add me to your watch list to be alerted when this tutorial is updated!
Thanks for your support on my guides. I have more that I intend to publish in a couple of months for other writing-related things. I do hope you'll keep an eye out for them.
Also, do you beta fanfiction? I've been mentally debating whether or not to ask for a beta, and while you seem like you would be rather ruthless, I would be very honored if you wouldn't mind looking at some of my work. If it's too much time, of course I understand. I actually deal a lot with alternate universes, now that I think about it. But, usually they're closed universes.
Yet again, excellent work on this part- I've been intending to write a modern day AU for Kuroshitsuji, in fact.
A question; what's your opinion on changing the ages of the characters? Namely, having Ciel at 16 and Sebastian at about 20. The purpose of this in my particular story is to put Ciel over- or, at least, AT- the age of consent, for the sake of less creepy factor- as well as having Sebastian be a bit younger than he is usually portrayed, for the same reason. (And yes, where I live, 16 is the age of consent.)
Would you consider changing ages something that could be used for AU, if other aspects of the characters' personalities are kept intact?
Say, if I ever wanted to write them in a universe I know first hand, would that be wrong? would that be okay? I'm not used to writing AUs, but I just had to ask. (Not that I'll post any AU yet. They are not really my thing)
Lizzy is ciels really good frend, and she wants a clown at her birthday party. She just said this hours before and their was noway for them to hire a clown... untill sebastian wants to make ciel happy... because lizzy was crying ans all depersed and making ciel upset and giving them both a headache.. so sebast dressed as a clown, making lizzy happy and giving ciel something to tease sebastian about. >
I hope you'll write more of these in the future!
*nods* And even if you can write it in a way that minimizes the creepiness... it's still illegal in the modern era. Unless one's aim is to highlight that creeepiness and the consequences of such a relationship, because sadly, it does happen in real life, it's best as you say to not go there, ever.
Of course I have to watch a few episodes b4 I begin the fanfic, but hopefully reading these can help me out.
I mean, not knocking it since I've written fan fiction before xD;
But I just figured that if you're going to put so much effort into teaching people something it would be... well... original stuff. I believe I read the first tutorial and if I remember there were some good tips that would be much better suited for just general writing help ^^
I'm just curious is all.
I write fan fiction tutorials because there are no resources out there for fan authors. I do put in a lot of things that work just as well for original fiction authors, because everything that makes original fiction good should also make fan fiction good. I am hoping that my tutorials can teach people how to be better authors. Not just for fan fiction but for original fiction, as well.
I agree with you to be honest, in order to write anything you need to be capable of understanding how to write in general. I guess I just thought it might be... I dunno, alienating more potential 'students' by specifying what it was for
Ah well, I see your point and don't dispute it ^^ thanks for answering.
